Risk: SPE, ORMA, and GAR Calculator 1.0.9

The Risk app is a tool that utilizes the SPE and ORMA risk assessment models to analyze risks and develop mitigation strategies. This application was created as a digital alternative to the traditional laminated card provided to National Park Service personnel upon completion of Operational Leadership training.

The SPE model assesses risk levels associated with specific hazards, such as watercraft operations or trail maintenance, through a comprehensive evaluation of severity, probability, and exposure factors. The calculated risk score, along with the identified risk level and recommended guidelines, aids users in understanding the potential impacts of their activities.

ORMA, short for Operational Risk Management Analysis, follows a cyclical planning approach, mandating periodic re-evaluation when environmental conditions or operational dynamics shift. By integrating ORMA into the planning process, organizations can effectively identify and address risks in alignment with their core mission objectives.

The GAR system, denoting Green, Amber, and Red categories, translates numerical assessments of individual risk components and overall risk into color-coded warnings. Each risk element receives a rating from 1 to 10, with higher values signaling elevated risk levels. Once all parameters are appraised, the cumulative score determines the corresponding GAR color classification and associated recommendations.
